Why Infrastructure?

  • It is one of the sectors most vulnerable to fraud

  • Puerto Rico's infrastructure is seriously weakened

  • Billions are on the way to rebuild the country's infrastructure

The Solution: Infrastructure Transparency

  • Initiative that promotes citizen participation through the development and implementation of transparency and social accountability mechanisms that are focused on priority infrastructure projects for communities. This way we protect the multi-million dollar investments assigned to this sector, guarantee its efficient and equitable use, and contribute to a just recovery.

  • This initiative helps protect and optimize public resources of participating municipalities or government entities, since the implementation of transparency and social monitoring mechanisms generates greater competitiveness and efficiency, which translates into lower costs for the municipalities and high-quality infrastructure for communities.

  • These stakeholders collaborate to disseminate information on infrastructure and construction projects, facilitate monitoring and social accountability in the execution of projects, and discuss risks and strategies to address them.

Results!

  • Thanks to the efforts of Sembrando Sentido, Liga de Ciudades, and the Municipality of Coamo, Puerto Rico becomes the first United States jurisdiction joining CoST.

  • The pilot project will start in the Municipality of Coamo to implement mechanisms for transparency and social monitoring.

  • The Municipality of Toa Baja will also be joining the pilot initiative. But this is only the beginning as we hope to serve as a model for others in P.R. and U.S. to join the effort!
